Trump’s New Visa Policy May Impact Pakistan and 40 Other Nations
The U.S. government, under Donald Trump’s administration, is reportedly considering imposing broad travel restrictions on citizens from dozens of countries. According to sources and an internal memo reviewed by Reuters, Pakistan is among the nations that could face a partial suspension of U.S. visa issuance if its government does not take steps to address certain concerns within 60 days.
The memo categorizes a total of 41 countries into three groups:
1. Complete Visa Suspension: The first group consists of 10 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Cuba, and North Korea, which could face a full ban on visa issuance.
2. Partial Visa Suspension: The second group includes Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, and South Sudan, where restrictions would mainly affect tourist, student, and certain immigrant visas, though some exceptions may apply.
3. Conditional Partial Suspension: The third group comprises 26 nations, including Pakistan, Belarus, and Turkmenistan. These countries could face partial visa restrictions if their governments fail to address specific deficiencies within the given 60-day timeframe.
The proposed measures are part of a broader effort to tighten immigration policies and enhance national security. However, such restrictions could have significant diplomatic and economic implications for the affected countries.
